Technical Assistance
Creative Placemaking has been defined as “partnerships with the public, private, non-profit, and community sectors to strategically shape the economic, physical, and social characteristics of a place around arts and cultural activities” (A. Markusen and A. Gadwa. 2010. Creative placemaking.). However, many communities struggle with understanding the steps necessary to establish those partnerships. The NJIT Hub for Creative Placemaking’s technical assistance program provides one-on-one guidance for your community, tailored to the community’s specific needs.
A key element of this technical assistance program is to target underserved communities that have vulnerable populations, economic disinvestments, and former industrial properties that have languished due to the perception of environmental contamination (brownfields). In addition, we assist communities desiring to complete the Sustainable Jersey Arts and Creative Culture action steps.
The NJIT Hub’s technical assistance includes developing a customized roadmap for your community that will illustrate steps needed to infuse arts and culture in an effort to stimulate economic development, address social equity, and reinvigorate community engagement.
Our Creative Placemaking Technical Assistance Team consists of Creative Placemaking professionals, social scientists, and planners and engineers who all have experience in assisting communities interested in revitalization.
